What is a Gastroenterologist?

A gastroenterologist is called many things: A GI, a digestive specialist, even a ‘belly doc’. Whatever you decide to call us, our specialty remains the same: Treating people with problems or disorders of the intestines, liver and pancreas.

Gastrointestinal disorders may occur at any location in the digestive system, from the esophagus to the colon and liver to the pancreas. Although these may be somewhat difficult or embarrassing to discuss, most can be treated successfully when identified early.
